BBC on Tuesday reported that a Nigerian soldier has said he and at least 39 others will no longer be willing to fight boko haram. According to the report the soldier said they would refuse orders to deploy until they receive better equipment.
“Soldiers are dying like fowl. The Nigerian army is not ready to fight Boko Haram” he told BBC while explaining soldiers were not being given enough weapons and ammunition to take on Boko Haram insurgents.
“Boko Haram are inside the bush, everywhere, They (senior commanders) are sacrificing soldiers,” he said.
The Defence headquarters spokesman, Gen Chris Olukolade, however denied the reports while speaking on BBC’s Focus on Africa programme that he could not confirm the reports of a mutiny but would investigate.
He fervently denied the statement that soldiers were being “sent to die”.
“We may not have all it takes but we are improving on it (equipment) regularly,” he said.
