Dammy Krane is signed to Davido now. And yes it’s news.
The young singer who has been in the news this year for a lot of reasons finally gets a home to rein in all of that talent, and hone it to achieve its potential.
This means the ‘Amin’ crooner has parted ways with his former label – 2Baba’s Hypertek Digital. He also recently affiliated with an imprint Usual Suspekt. The singer will be joining singer Mayorkun and rapper Dremo on the DMW label.
The confirmation of the deal was sourced from Davido’s Snapchat records. The singer who dropped his album “Enterkraner” in 2014 has worked with Davido on a couple of songs including ‘Izzue’ and ‘Ladies’.
According to sources, Dammy Krane’s Usual Suspekt and Davido’s DMW will be putting pen to paper on September 23, 2016, with Tunji Adeleke, Davido’s cousin being appointed CEO of the DMW label.
What does the singer bring to DMW?
Dammy Krane is a beast on the mic. A talented songwriter, the singer offers another outlet of creativity for the burgeoning record label. His creative input into the mix will prove invaluable on songs and releases.
Davido finally has signed a star who can hold his own in the music world as a bonafide hit maker. Dammy Krane has enjoyed a long history of hits and near-hits, which has made his name grow. Hat hasn’t happened for him until this point is the consistent investment into his career. DMW’s signing already looks like a win for the star.
Mayorkun, Dremo and Ichaba will have another mentor for their budding careers. Davido is a long way from home, as he continues to work on new projects to help bring his career to its highest point after signing with Sony Music. He is yet to release any new personal material this year, and work is in progress to make that work. Dammy Krane will provide a closer guidance and supervision in the recording process, and production too. There’s just so much at stake for the label to not have extra hands working to optimize all of that investment.
Then there’s the combination between Davido and Dammy Krane when they collaborate. The stars have an uncanny chemistry that results in a big win for the playlist, whenever they hit the studio. Their creations include ‘Incase of Incasity’, ‘Izzue’, and ‘Ladies’. These songs always turn out to be great creations of pop music. Perhaps internalizing the talent from the Krane would provide a readily available in-house partnership that might result in an EP.
All of these make DMW stronger. The label which looked a little light during its announcement earlier this year, has recorded some level of wins in the past 6 months, which has seen Mayorkun and Dremo grow. This growth needs to be sustained, and more hands were needed. Nobody saw this coming, and few would be able to call this a bad move for either party. What really matters is that a path to victory has been discovered by the label, and Dammy Krane fits squarely in it.
That’s a win for Dammy Krane and Davido. That’s a win for DMW.
