“Jamb Question” crooner, Simi, who is signed to X3M record label, has stated that she won’t be doing anymore gospel songs.
Simi, who started her singing career as a member of a local church choir, denied in an interview with Punch News that she switched to mainstream music in order to improve her finances.
She said, “(For me) Music became about ‘more’, I wanted to have a broader purview. It was a tough decision for me to make at first.”
“However, my faith in God hasn’t waivered because I went mainstream, I prayed to God to bless my career if it was his plan for me. I also don’t see myself doing gospel music again”.
Though her music career began as far back as 2006, she began earning recognition in 2014, after doing covers to songs released by some international artistes such as Rihanna and Adele.
Her popularity has also brought about some controversies, as she was rumoured to be dating Nigerian rapper, Falz.
Both have however denied the report in separate interviews, maintaining that they are just friends.
In the interview with Punch, Simi drew a clearer line about her relationship with the rapper, by mentioning that her current boyfriend is quite understanding with her plight.
“Falz and I are just friends, my man is mature and understands the fact that I may be erroneously romantically linked with an artiste simply because we work on music projects together”, she said.
Concerning her drive to be successful, the singer mentioned that her parent’s separation inspired her to work very hard, acknowledging that life isn’t a bed of roses.
