INEC Chairman, Attahiru Jega

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Attahiru Jega, on Monday, March 16, held a town hall meeting in Abuja.

Jega used the opportunity to address the rumours regarding his supposed resignation and the use of card readers for the upcoming elections.

Here are five important things he said during the town hall meeting:

  1. I am not under any pressure to resign

  2. The issue of terminal leave is voluntary. Why will I resign when I have a constitutional duty?

  3. Nobody has told me to proceed on terminal leave.

  4. Everybody in INEC is focused on the efforts to deliver the best elections in the history of the country.

  5. If we don’t use card readers, we will lose respect and credibility. We will be going back to old ways when alteration of results were possible.
