It has come to light that in President Muhammadu Buhari’s war against corruption, whistleblowers are becoming the biggest beneficiaries.

It has been revealed that the government has paid a total of N375.8 million to 20 whistleblowers who provided information that led to the recovery over N11.6 billion.

This information was disclosed in a statement by the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, revealing that the payments are the first under the country’s Whistleblower Policy, which entitles a whistleblower to a minimum of five percent of the money involved in the corruption case reported by the individual.

“The payment underscores the commitment of the President Muhmmadu Buhari-led administration to meet its obligations to information providers under the Whistleblower Policy, which is an essential tool in the fight against corruption,” the statement read.

The identities of the individuals involved were not revealed, for security reasons especially to protect the identities of information providers against retaliation.

The minister said the purpose of the policy is to win the fight against financial corruption in the country that has been troubled by it for a very long time, assuring that President Buhari’s administration will continue its determined fight to ensure transparency in governance.
