Some students of the Bayelsa State higher institution, Niger Delta University have threatened to go nude in protest for the closure of their varsity.
According to a report by Punch Newspaper, the students have taken to the streets to protest the indefinite closure after the university lecturers went on an indefinite strike on April 28, 2016, following the non payment of backlog of salaries by the state Governor, Seriake Dickson.
According to the report, the state government was owing striking lecturers a backlog of four months salaries as at April 28, 2016, hence the decision to begin the industrial action.
It was further reported that concerned students with the name, Niger Delta Visionary Movement, have criticised other students’ bodies such as the Student Union Government of NDU, National Union of Bayelsa State Students and the National Union of Izon-Ebe Students, for not doing anything to salvage the situation.
The aggrieved students further threatened to march naked with their books and block the entrance to Government House if academic activities do not resume in the school after a week.
