A 20-year-old housemaid, Vivian Simeon-Michael, has been sentenced to two months imprisonment without an option of a fine by a Lagos Magistrate Court sitting in Igbosere, for allegedly stealing her employer’s underwear worth N295, 000.
The housekeeper had earlier pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of stealing preferred against her by the police and the presiding Magistrate, A. T. Omoyele, delivered the verdict on her, noting that ‘she is a first offender who must see that crime does not pay.’
The police prosecutor, Corporal Cyricaus Osuji, had told the court that the suspect committed the offence on September 9, at the Isale Eko Way, Dolphin Estate Ikoyi, residence of her employer, Bisi Awoniyi, where she stole a set of underwear, and other items.
“She stole a set of underwear, three sets of `buba’ and wrappers, seven pieces of pants, bracelets, 10 pieces of handkerchief and seven pieces of face towel.
The others items are two pair of stockings and night wears all valued at N295, 000,” Corporal Osuji said.
